How do I enter an event?
Click on the ENTER Events (or ADD Events) button on any page. Then complete and submit the Data Entry Form. If you would like the same event to be listed in more than one language use more than one language on the form or submit additional forms in different languages.

When will my entry appear in the data base?
Your information will be checked to see that it is appropriate for listing on this site and will then appear on line as soon as possible -usually within 24 or 48 hours.

Does listing an event in READIT mean that it is open for anyone to attend?
No, not necessarily. Many events are listed for information and research purposes only. The links to the web sites and e-mail addresses of the organisers should lead the user to information about who may attend the event - if it is open to the public, if inquiries are welcomed or if it is limited to invitees only - and the organisers' own sites may indicate if there are any costs involved, how to register, etc.

How can I correct or delete information about an event listed in the data base?
If the information about your event is incorrect or needs updating you can submit a new data entry form and send us an e-mail to delete the incorrect record. We will delete the incorrect record at the same time we post the new version. Also to delete cancelled events just send us an e-mail. Write to us at: editor@readit2002.net.

Why are events which have already passed still listed in the data base?
An important value of READIT is that we continue to list events even though they have already taken place. Click the links to past events to visit the organisers' web sites where you should be able to find results of the meetings: final reports, lists of participants, presentations, related documents, links for further research, etc.

What type of organisations and events are covered in the data base?
Click here for the list of the 21 types of organisations and events.

What are the subjects areas covered in the READIT calendar and Global Action Guide?
Click here for a list of the 76 fields covered.

What if the subject of my event (or events I am looking for) is not among those listed on the Data Entry Form (or Data Search Form)?
You can enter any topic you wish in the keywords field of the data entry form or search for events using any keyword you choose. For example, for a meeting on pesticides click on the subjects of Agriculture-Food and Chemicals, but also enter the word pesticides in the keywords field. Use the keywords field to freely search for the topic which interests you. The search engine will also automatically use the keyword(s) you enter for scanning the title of events, organisers and the descriptions of events.

How else can I search for events in the data base?
Click on the SEARCH Events navigation button. Then search for events using 1 or more search criteria. You can also browse all events in any sub-region by clicking on the map on the main page or by selecting one of the browse categories on the main page menu.

How are the countries of the world divided into regions and sub-regions on the READIT world map?
We have grouped countries into regions and sub-regions based on standard geographical divisions, also taking into account cultural, historical, language and other criteria. The next edition of READIT should enable the user to 'zoom-in' on specific countries, provinces and states on the map.
Click here for the current list of countries, sub-regions and regions.

How can my organisation / web site be added to the Global Action Guide?
To be included in the list of 100s of links to sustainable development web sites just send information about your site to us at: edtior@readit2002.net.

Why is this web site only in English?
When resources allow we hope to make the main page and other elements of this site available in other languages. In the meantime, you can enter information about your events in any language supported by European characters. Remember also to indicated on the data entry form the working languages for your event and list the web site pages for further information about your event regardless of the languages used.

How long will events listed in READIT remain on-line?
We expect this site will be on-line for several years to come. Events entered will remain listed unless you inform us by e-mail to post the information for a limited period or to delete an event record. Remember READIT is also used to find the results of past events - not just the list of upcoming events.

What other modules are planned for READIT in the future?
We are working on ideas for additional elements to be added to this web site in the future, such as a special section for youth and students and a fun space for children to learn about sustainable development issues. Also in the planning is a Sustainable Development Timeline which will enable new activists to research the major landmarks in the history of the sustainable development from 1972 to the present. Document sharing facilities and on-line conference rooms might also be features of the future. If you would like to help develop any of these ideas or have other suggestions please let us know.
